Women in Politics – Are We Being Equally Represented?

Join us for an engaging online event where we’ll dive into the topic of women in politics and the crucial question of whether we are truly being equally represented. This event aims to shed light on the challenges women face in the political arena and to consider the progress that has been made so far and what still needs to be achieved.

We are delighted to welcome two key leaders in this field; the Rt Hon Caroline Nokes – Chair of the Women and Equalities Commission and Vikki Slade – Leader of BCP Council.

We will hear Caroline and Vikki speak about this important subject and their own work towards achieving gender parity in politics. We will invite a panel of local Councillors and parliamentary candidates to enter into a round table discussion with Caroline and Vikki and then open up the floor to questions from the audience.

There is still a long way to go to create the kind of society in the UK where women can expect to live free from discrimination, bias and inequality. Equal and fair representation in parliament is the most likely means by which big change can be made. And we are still a long way from achieving that. All MPs in Dorset are men, only 30% of Councillors are women in Dorset Council, and 40% in BCP Council.

There are complex reasons why it is more difficult for women to be elected political leaders and it is important that we understand them better in order to fix them.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from our inspiring speakers and contribute to the conversation! Register now to secure your spot.
